- Moran is an American anthropologist, currently the John A.
- Hannah Distinguished Professor of Global Change Science at Michigan State University (MSU), and also a published author.
- He is also the Distinguished Professor Emeritus and Rudy Professor Emeritus at Indiana University.
- He is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences.
- Two honorary achievements include delivering the Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture in 2011, and also obtaining an honorary degree from MSU.
