Ryan Wallace Zimmerman (born September 28, 1984) is an American professional baseball first baseman who is currently a free agent.
Zimmerman graduated from Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia and played college baseball at the University of Virginia.
He is nicknamed Mr.
National as he has been a member of the Washington Nationals since his debut on September 1, 2005, and was the team's first ever draft pick when the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise moved from Montreal.
Zimmerman was drafted in the first round as the fourth overall pick by the Nationals in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft.
He is well known for his clutch hitting and walkoff hits.
Formerly a third baseman, Zimmerman transitioned to first base in 2015.
