- Shantaram Govind Athavale (Marathi: ???????? ?????? ?????) (21 January 1910 – 2 May 1975) was a Marathi film director, lyricist, and author.He won the 3rd National Film Awards in 1955 for directing the movie Shevagyachya Shenga. He is also known for directing the Cannes-nominated Marathi film, Vahinichya Bangdya, based on a book by Yashavant Gopal Joshi (1901–63) and set to music by Sudhir Vinayak Phadke
