  • Mitchell was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Marlboro.
  • He was elected a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and served in the Massachusetts State Senate. He was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Charles Q.

  • He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1910 to the Sixty-second Congress, but was elected to the Sixty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John W.
