About Jan Gwiazdomorski

  • Jan Gwiazdomorski (4 February 1899 – 17 December 1977) was a Polish lawyer. Gwiazdomorski was born in Kraków.
  • He graduated from Jagiellonian University, obtaining his doctorate in law in 1922.
  • Two years after graduation, he became senior assistant at the Faculty of Law at the same institution, and after finishing habilitation in 1928 became assistant professor.
  • He was promoted to associate professor in 1930 and in 1937 became full professor of civil law.
  • From 1939 to 1940, Gwiazdomorski was imprisoned by the Germans in his hometown, and was sent to Sachsenhausen concentration camp where he remained until the end of the war.
  • He was liberated, and then returned to Jagiellonian University, where he continued his studies until he graduated from it.
  • From 1948 to 1956, Gwiazdomorski served as lecturer on family, inheritance and contract laws at the University of Wroclaw.
  • He returned to Jagiellonian University in 1956 and worked there until his retirement.
  • Gwiazdomorski was a member of numerous scientific organizations including, the Polish Academy of Learning and the Polish Academy of Sciences, and served on Codification Commission, specializing in civil procedural law.
