About Naděžda Plíšková

  • Nadežda Plíšková (6 November 1934 - 16 September 1999) was a Czech graphic artist, sculptor, and poet. A native of Rozdelov, Kladno, Plíšková was interested in art from childhood, beginning her studies at the High School of Applied Arts in 1950.
  • After graduation in 1954 she moved to the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, where she studied with Vladimír Silovský; she continued working with Karel Soucek until graduating in 1961.
  • A scholarship took her to the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig from 1958 until 1959; in 1968 and 1969 she was studying in Stuttgart.
  • She exhibited widely at home and abroad, both alone and alongside her husband, Karel Nepraš.
  • In 1982 she suffered a serious spinal injury.
  • Plíšková's work was frequently large in scale, and was at various times influenced by elements of surrealism, pop art, and realism.
  • One of her prints is in the collection of the National Gallery of Art.
