About Lawrence Duhé

  • Lawrence Duhé (30 April 1887 – 1960) was an early jazz clarinetist and bandleader.
  • He was a member of Sugar Johnnie's New Orleans Creole Orchestra. Duhé was born in LaPlace, Louisiana.
  • He played with Kid Ory and followed Ory to New Orleans.
  • He played with King Oliver, Frankie Duson, and led his own band in Storyville.
  • In 1917 he moved to Chicago where his band was popular in clubs and dance halls and performed at the 1919 World Series.
  • In the 1920s he returned to New Orleans and played with Armand J.
  • Piron.
  • After touring with the Rabbit's Foot minstrel show he worked in Lafayette and New Iberia with Evan Thomas and Bunk Johnson.
  • He retired before from music in the 1940s and died in Lafayette.
