He specialized in Thracian archaeology.
He participated in the excavations of many sites including the Alexandrovo Tomb, Kosmatka, Svetitzata and Starosel Cult Complex.Kitov died from a heart attack on September 14, 2008 during excavations in Starosel, Bulgaria.
