Moulana Mehmood Madani (born 3 March 1964) is an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament of India's upper house the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2012.
He is the general secretary of the Muslim organisation Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind(Council of Indian Muslim Theologians).
He is known for his outspoken opposition to misuse of the term Jihad by some extremists.
Following consecutive bombings by extremists in the first decade of the 21st century, including the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts, he exhorted Deoband to issue a fatwa for steering true Islam from fanatical views.
Mahmood Madani believes that terrorism should have not be shown any sympathy in Islam, and that Islam is a religion that is totally against terrorism.
Maulana Mahmood Madani represents the third generation of a century old legacy of struggle for freedom, equality, social justice and human rights.
His grand father, Maulana Syed Hussain Ahmad Madani, the great Scholar of Islamic theology, a teacher of Hadith (traditions of Prophet) in Prophet's Mosque at Medina, and in Darul Uloom Deoband, devoted his life to the struggle for freedom.
His son, Maulana As'ad Madani followed in his father's footstep.
