About Robert Solomon (politician)

  • Robert John Solomon AM (born 2 November 1931) is an Australian retired politician.
  • Born in Condobolin, New South Wales, he was educated at Barker College, the University of Sydney and Oxford University before receiving a PhD from the University of Tasmania.
  • He was Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Tasmania from 1957 to 1969, and was vice-president of the Tasmanian Liberal Party from 1965 to 1969.
  • In 1969, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Denison, succeeding the retiring Liberal MP Adrian Gibson.
  • He was defeated in 1972 by the Labor candidate, John Coates.
