Irwin, (born October 29, 1936) is a Canadian diplomat and former politician.
Born in Sault Ste.
Marie, Ontario, Irwin earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.
While at the University of Western Ontario he joined the Sigma Kappa Sigma chapter of Delta Upsilon.
From 1972 to 1974, he was mayor of Sault Ste.
Marie.
He has also served as a school trustee, alderman and director of the local Chamber of Commerce.
From 1977 to 1980, he was a member of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.
Irwin was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1980 federal election as a Liberal.
