About Haydée Coloso-Espino

  • Haydee Coloso-Espino (born 28 August 1937) is a Filipino swimmer.
  • She competed at the Rome 1960 Summer Olympics.Coloso-Espino is dubbed as the “Asian Swim Queen,” due to her being the Filipino athlete with the most number of medals in the Asian Games. Her career spans from the 1950s to the 1960s.
  • During her career she won an overall of ten medals while competing at the 1954, 1958, and 1962 Asian Games.
  • Of those medals, three were gold, five were silver, and two were bronze.
  • Her gold medals came from the 100-meter freestyle and butterfly events.
  • She was chosen as Woman Swimmer of the Year for three consecutive years (1953, 1954 and 1955) by the Philippine Sportswriters Association.
  • She was inducted into the Philippine Sports Hall of fame in 2016.
