Nischal Basnet is a Nepali director, actor and playback singer who predominantly works in Nepali cinema.
Basnet has directed three feature films, including Loot (2012), Talakjung vs Tulke (2014) and Loot 2 (2017).
Besides directing, he has acted in Kabaddi (2014), Dui Rupaiyan (2017), and Prasad (2018). Basnet debuted as a film director with the crime-thriller Loot, which earned 52.0 million Nepalese rupees (NPR) and became a cult classic.
After his successful debut as a director, he debuted as an actor in Uma (2013).
He went on to star in Kabaddi.
Basnet later directed the dark comedy Talakjung vs Tulke, which was critically acclaimed and commercially successful.
The film was selected as the Nepalese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
After Talakjung vs Tulke he directed a sequel to Loot, named Loot 2.
It became a blockbuster, earning NPR 78.5 million at the box office. In 2017 Basnet starred in the comedy-drama Dui Rupaiyan.
Basnet also sang "Talkyo Jawani" for the soundtrack of the film.
In 2018 Basnet appeared in a negative role in Prasad, playing Ramesh, who interferes with the life of a couple who can not conceive.
His role was praised by critics, and he was nominated for Best Actor in a Negative Role at Kamana Film Awards and Dcine Awards.
Basnet has been married to Nepalese film actress Swastima Khadka since 2016.
