Nayden Todorov (Bulgarian: ?????? ???????; born Plovdiv 1974) is a Bulgarian conductor.
NAYDEN TODOROV was voted Musician of the Year 2018 in the national poll of the Allegro Vivace program at the Horizont station of the Bulgarian National Radio – receiving the accolade for the second time after winning the 2013 audience vote.
A talented conductor and winner of many awards, Mr.
Todorov has been awarded twice the Crystal Lyre Prize – in 2005 for his performance of Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2016 for his activities with the State Opera of Rousse.
He is also winner of the 2014 Emil Chakarov Prize, and had the title Honorary Citizen of the City of Rousse bestowed on him in 2016.
He was also awarded accolades from the Slovak Musical Fund, Vienna's Rotary Club, the Borghese Foundation, the Sofia Award for the operatic production of Gounod's Faust at the National Opera and Ballet House of Sofia; the Golden Stave Award for his contribution to the proliferation of Bulgarian music; the Golden Book Award for his substantial contribution to the propagation of Bulgarian culture, and the award of the Georg Wechter Foundation – Switzerland.
Nayden Todorov has made his conducting debut at the age of sixteen as a student at the Dobrin Petkov School of Music in Plovdiv, where he founded the Plovdiv Youth orchestra.
Beginning in 1993, he was trained as a student of Professors Karl Österreicher and Prof.
Uroš Lajovic at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts as recipient of the Vienna Rotary Scholarship.
In 1996 -1997, Mr.
Todorov was invited by the Leonard Bernstein Foundation, Jerusalem, to undergo a course of advanced studies in Israel, where he worked with Mendi Rodan, the principal conductor of the Israeli Philharmonic.
In 2013, he earned a second diploma in management in the field of culture from the New Bulgarian University.
In 1998-1999, he was selected from among over 150 candidates for the position of permanent conductor of the Israel Northern Symphony Orchestra Haifa.
In the same year, Mr.
Todorov was invited to the Los Angeles International Festival for Chamber Music in the capacity of artistic adviser.
Nayden Todorov made his debut with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra in 2001, becoming from the 2004-2005 season its permanent guest-conductor.
In the period 2005 - 2017, he was director of the State Opera – Rousse.
As of 2017, Nayden Todorov serves as Director of the Sofia Philharmonic.
Mr.
Todorov has collaborated with various orchestras in Bulgaria and abroad, and participated in numerous international festivals across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
One of Bulgaria's most successful contemporary musicians, Nayden Todorov has gained exposure with memorable interpretations of works from a wide repertorial range.
His artistic collaborations include famous artists such as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sarah Chang, Maxim Vengerov, Paul Badura-Skoda, Raina Kabaivanska, Gena Dimitrova, Anna Tomova-Sintova, Nicola Ghiuselev, Angela Gheorghiu, Joshua Bell, Yuri Bashmet, Svetlin Rusev, Milena Mollova, Ludmil Angelov, Vadim Repin etc.
