Simon Robert Armitage, (born 26 May 1963) is an English poet, playwright and novelist.
He is professor of poetry at the University of Leeds and succeeded Geoffrey Hill as Oxford Professor of Poetry when he was elected to the 4-year part-time appointment from 2015–2019.
On 10 May 2019 it was announced that Armitage would be the next Poet Laureate.
