- He won a silver medal in the half-middleweight (81 kg) division at the 2004 Summer Olympics and bronze medal in the half-middleweight (81 kg) division at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
- Hontyuk is the Merited Master of Sports of Ukraine.
