About Steve Maronic

  • Steven Jesse Maronic (May 13, 1917 – May 7, 1980) was an American football player in the National Football League (NFL). Steve was a two way tackle and placekicker for the North Carolina Tar Heels, in 1938 he was named All American and All Southern Conference whilst helping the Tar Heels to a 6-2-1 record.
  • He was an "iron man" playing almost 60 minutes of every game in the 1938 season.
  • He turned in two of his best performances in front of the New York media against NYU at Yankee Stadium and Fordham at the Polo Grounds.
  • Those games solidified his All-America chances.
  • Maronic hit 13 straight PATs in his final season.
