  • Since 1996 Onishchenko has been the Chief Sanitary Inspector of Russia, succeeding Yevgeny Belyayev.
  • He presided over the decision to ban Moldovan and Georgian wines, as well as other Georgian products, in 2006 and the ban of Belarusian dairy products in 2009.
  • Since October 2016 Member of the State Duma On June 24, 2009, Eduard Kokoity granted Onishchenko honorary citizenship of South Ossetia.Onishchenko has three children, one daughter and two sons.
