Hyman (born September 26, 1947 in Los Angeles) is Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California at Berkeley.
He is a specialist in phonology, and has particular interest in African languages.
He received his B.S., M.A, and Ph.D.
degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles.
He has received numerous grants for his research, mostly from the National Science Foundation, and has won several awards, both within and beyond the University.
