About Yrjö Kokko

  • Yrjö Olavi Samuli Kokko (16 October 1903 in Sortavala – 6 September 1977 in Helsinki) was a Finnish veterinarian and writer.
  • He was married to dentist Aune Ilus.
  • He is most notable for his fairy tale Pessi and Illusia and initiating conservation work for whooper swan in Finland.
  • In the 1950s he became upset, because new time and new lifestyle came to Lapland.
  • He was awarded with Pro Finlandia medal in 1956. Yrjö Kokko illustrated several of his books with nature photographs taken by himself.
