About Angela Bailey

  • Angela Bailey (born 28 February 1962) is a Canadian former track and field athlete.
  • She is the Canadian record holder in the 100 metres with her personal best of 10.98 seconds, set in 1987.
  • She also holds the 200 metres indoor national record of 23.32 seconds. Bailey was born in Coventry, England.
  • She first came to international attention at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in 1978.
  • In 1980 she won Gold in both 100 meters and 200 meters at the first Pan Am Juniors Track and Field Championships in Sudbury.
  • Beating the favoured American sprinter Michele Glover decisively in both distances.
  • She won all her races on tour of New Zealand in late 1981; which included three gold medals at the Pacific Conference Games in 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay.
  • She placed fourth in the 100 meters and seventh in the 200 meters at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, and was again fourth in the 100 meters in 1986. Bailey won a silver medal for the 4×100 m relay at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, and did so again in both the 1982 and 1986 games.
  • At the 1983 World Championships she placed 5th in the 100 m and seventh in the 200 metres 5th in the 4×100 m relay.
  • At the same event in 1987 she placed seventh in the 100 m. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles Bailey came in sixth in the 100 m and the silver medal with the Canadian team, made up of Marita Payne, Angella Taylor-Issajenko and France Gareau.
  • She was selected for the 1980 Olympic team, but Canada boycotted the event.
