About André Schott

  • André Schott (in Latin Andreas Schottus; 12 September 1552 – 23 January 1629) was a Jesuit priest of the Duchy of Brabant, academic, linguist, translator and editor. Born in Antwerp (in the Seventeen Provinces of the Low Countries) he studied at the Collegium Trilingue of Louvain, where he was a pupil of the Latinist Cornelius Valerius, Douai and Paris; and taught in Zaragoza and Toledo. After entering the Society of Jesus in 1586 he taught Greek in Rome and Antwerp.
  • He corresponded with Ortelius, Isaac Casaubon, and Hugo Grotius.
  • André Schott died in Antwerp in 1629.
