About Yamagata Aritomo
- Duke Yamagata Aritomo (?? ??, 14 June 1838 – 1 February 1922), also known as Yamagata Kyosuke, was a Japanese field marshal, twice-elected Prime Minister of Japan, and one of the leaders of the Meiji oligarchy.
- As the Imperial Japanese Army’s inaugural Chief of Staff, he was the main architect of the military foundation of early modern Japan.
- For this reason, some historians consider Yamagata to be the “father” of Japanese militarism.
