About Abdel Halim Muhammad

  • Abdel Halim Muhammad (10 April 1910 – 16 April 2009) was a Sudanese doctor.
  • He served as the third president of the Confederation of African Football from 1968 to 1972 and again from 1987 to 1988.
  • He participated in founding the Graduates' General Congress that went later on to draft the first memorandum demanding independence from the Anglo-Egyptian occupation.
  • He was also a member of the Committee of Sovereignty of The Sudan from December 1964 to July 1965 which presided over the interim coalition Government that paved the way for general elections.
  • He was the first president of the University of Khartoum council after independence. He was one of the founders of the Confederation of African Football.
  • The first president of the Sudanese Football Association, Sudanese Equestrian Association, Sudanese National Olympic Committee, Sudanese Basketball Association, He was born in Omdurman in April 1910 and died in Khartoum in 2009 at the age of 99.
  • From 22 January 2009, when former Cambodia Prime Minister Chau Sen Cocsal Chhum died until his own death, Muhammad was the world's oldest living former head of state.
