About Edmund Wnuk-Lipiński

  • Edmund Wnuk-Lipinski (4 May 1944 – 4 January 2015) was a Polish sociologist, political scientist and writer.
  • A professor of sociology, he was the founder and first headperson of the Polish Academy of Sciences' Institute of Political Studies and the rector of Warsaw-based Collegium Civitas.
  • He was also a fellow at the Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna, the University of Notre Dame, and Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin, as well as a member of the Polish National Council for Civil Service and the National Council for European Integration.
  • He was teaching at the College of Europe (Natolin campus) since 1999. Apart from his scientific activities, Wnuk-Lipinski was also a successful author of science-fiction novels and novellas, and one of precursors of social science fiction genre in Poland (along with Janusz Zajdel).
  • The middle part of his Apostezjon social fiction dystopia trilogy (Wir pamieci, Rozpad polowiczny, Mord zalozycielski) received the 1988 Janusz A.
  • Zajdel Award for the best Polish science-fiction novel.Wnuk-Lipinski was born in Sucha.
