About Otis F. Glenn

  • Otis Ferguson Glenn (August 27, 1879 – March 11, 1959) was a Republican United States Senator from the State of Illinois. He was born in Mattoon, Illinois on August 27, 1879.
  • After graduating from law school in 1900 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he began practicing law in Murphysboro.
  • He served two terms as the State's Attorney for Jackson County, once from 1906 to 1908 and again from 1916 to 1920.
  • He was elected as a member of State Senate in 1920, serving for one term, until 1924.In 1928, when Frank L.

  • Senate seat he had won in 1926, after twice having his credentials refused by the Senate, Glenn defeated future Chicago mayor and Democrat Anton Cermak in a special election, 54.5 to 44.9 percent respectively, to serve out Smith's term.

  • Senator for Illinois from December 3, 1928 to March 3, 1933.
