About Philip Holiday

  • Phillip James Holiday (born 23 May 1970 in Benoni, South Africa) is a former professional world boxing champion in the lightweight division who also competed as a welterweight and a junior middleweight later in his career.
  • Holiday turned pro in 1991 and captured the Vacant IBF Lightweight Title in 1995 with a win over Miguel Julio.
  • In his prime, Holiday was regarded as an undersized lightweight, however he defended his title six times, including a notable knockout victory over three divisional world champion Jeff Fenech, before eventually losing by decision in a hard fought battle against an undefeated "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who was rated at the time as the best pound for pound boxer in the world.
