About Adam Jerzy Czartoryski

  • Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski (Polish pronunciation: ['adam 'j??? t??art?'r?sk?i]; Lithuanian: ?domas Jurgis Cartoriskis; also known, in English, as Adam George Czartoryski; 14 January 1770 – 15 July 1861) was a Polish nobleman, statesman, and agitator.
  • The son of a prince, he began as a foreign minister to the Russian Tsar Alexander I and built an anti-Napoleon coalition.
  • He became a leader of the Polish government in exile, and a bitter foe of Russian Tsar Nicholas I.
  • In exile he agitated the Polish Question across Europe, and stimulated early Balkan nationalism.
