Ana Orantes Ruiz (Granada, Spain, February 6, 1937- Cúllar Vega, December 17, 1997) was a Spanish woman victim of gender violence.
After her testimony was shown on a television program, she was killed by her last husband, José Parejo Avivar, on December 17, 1997 at age 60.
It caused a big repercussion about gender violence, and as a consequence, the restructuring of the Criminal Code of Spain.Seven years after the murder, on November 17, 2004, José Parejo died at the Hospital Ruiz de Alda, in Granada, after suffering a myocardial infarction in prison.Ana was the fifty-ninth victim in 1997.Also his sons were abused by José Parejo, and they didn't receive help.
