- Amadeo RaĂșl Carrizo (born 12 June 1926 in Rufino, Santa Fe), popularly known by his first name "Amadeo", is a former football goalkeeper.
- Carrizo is considered a pioneer of the position, helping to innovate techniques and strategies for goalkeepers.
- the IFFHS ranked Carrizo as the best South American keeper of the 20th century in 1999. He was the first goalkeeper to wear gloves, the first one to leave the penalty area to defend his goal and the first one to use goal kicks as a strategy to start counterattacks.He made his debut in the Argentine First Division on 6 May 1945, playing for River Plate.
- The match was against Independiente, River Plate won 2â1.During his time at River Plate, he played along stars such as JosĂ© Manuel Moreno, FĂ©lix Loustau, Adolfo Pedernera, Ăngel Labruna and Alfredo Di StĂ©fano.
- He won five Championship trophies in 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956 and 1957. He played for the Argentina national football team with significant success, especially against Brazil, but he also suffered a 6â1 defeat against Czechoslovakia, in the 1958 FIFA World Cup.He also played for the Colombian team Millonarios and won the Mustang Cup (also known as Copa Mustang). His way of playing has been imitated by many famous South American keepers, most notably Hugo Orlando Gatti, RenĂ© Higuita, and JosĂ© Luis Chilavert.In 1968, Carrizo simultaneously established two records for his time: official matches in the Argentine First Division (513) and consecutive matches without conceding any goals (8).
