  • House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Alexander Thomson was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
  • He apprenticed as a sickle maker.
  • He moved to Bedford, Pennsylvania, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1816 and commenced practice in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
  • He held several local offices and was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Thomson was elected to the Eighteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John Tod.
  • He was reelected to the Nineteenth Congress and served until May 1, 1826, when he resigned.
  • He served as mayor of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and was president judge of the sixteenth judicial district of Pennsylvania from 1827 to 1841.
  • He was professor in the law school of Marshall College in Lancaster.
  • He died in Chambersburg in 1848.
  • Interment in Falling Spring Presbyterian Cemetery.
