About Alexander Wilkinson

  • Colonel William Alexander Camac Wilkinson, (6 December 1892 – 19 September 1983) was a highly decorated British Army officer and English cricketer.
  • Australian-born, he served with the British Army in both the First and Second World Wars.
  • After the Second World War he spent some time in Graz, Austria as Senior Military Government Officer in the occupation forces. He also had a first-class cricket career lasting 27 years and was regarded as one of the most consistent batsmen of his day despite playing much of his career with an injured hand after being shot during the First World War and narrowly avoiding having his hand amputated.
