Born in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany, Alexandra is the youngest daughter of Ernest Augustus, Prince of Hanover (1914–1987), and his wife, Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1925–1980).
