- He is a two-time Olympian who competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics and 2000 Summer Olympics in the lightweight division.
- Gevorgyan also won a bronze medal at the 1998 European Amateur Boxing Championships.
- He later turned professional and had a record of 6-2.
