"Bernie" Cohen (born January 17, 1934) is a former politician and Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates.
On April 10, 1967, he presented oral argument for the petitioners in the Loving v.
Virginia case before the U.
S.
Supreme Court.
On June 12, 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Cohen's clients, declaring bans on interracial marriage unconstitutional, thus invalidating the anti-miscegenation laws of 15 states.
Although some nine states failed to repeal the offending statutes following the Supreme Court ruling, those laws were no longer enforceable.
