Sloan (1898-1982) was an American ophthalmologist and vision scientist.
Her career at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, where she directed the Laboratory of Physiological Optics, lasted nearly 50 years.
Sloan is internationally acclaimed for laying out the foundation of the field of clinical vision research.She designed the Sloan letters.
In 1971 Sloan won the The Optical Society Edgar D.
Tillyer Award "In recognition of her many distinguished accomplishments in the field of vision."Sloan was born in Baltimore in 1898, attended the Bryn Mawr School, and later the Bryn Mawr College where she received her Bachelor and PhD degrees in Experimental Psychology.
