About Firhad Hakim
- Firhad Hakim (born 1 January 1959) is an Indian politician serving as the mayor of Kolkata since 2018 and minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs of West Bengal since 2011. A member of the All India Trinamool Congress party, Hakim was elected to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in 2009.
- Two years later, he became a cabinet minister in the Mamata Banerjee ministry.
- On December 2018, he was elected mayor following the resignation of the incumbent Sovan Chatterjee.
- He is the first Muslim since the independence of India to become the mayor of the city. Hakim is the organizer-in-chief of the Chetla Agrani Durga Puja committee.
