About Chris Baker (politician)

  • Christopher John Baker (born 9 July 1958), Australian politician, is a member of the Liberal Party, and was a Member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly (1996–2001) and City of Joondalup councillor (2001–2005). Baker was born in Brisbane and moved to Western Australia in 1989.
  • Prior to entering parliament as the member for the newly created seat of Joondalup, he was a barrister, solicitor and proprietor of a law firm.
  • In parliament, he was involved in a number of committees, including the Public Accounts Committee.
  • He lost the seat at the February 2001 state election to his Labor rival, Tony O'Gorman. On 5 May 2001, Baker was elected as councillor for the Marina ward of Joondalup with an overwhelming majority of votes.[1].
  • He was one of a group of councillors who supported the controversial CEO, Denis Smith, and was criticised by the inquiry into the City of Joondalup by lawyer Greg McIntyre.
