About Conrado Benitez

  • Conrado Benitez (November 26, 1889 – January 4, 1971) was born in Pagsanjan, Laguna and was a former dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of the Philippines in Manila.
  • He was also the first president, as well as chairman, and one of the original incorporators of the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement.
  • He testified in front of the United States Senate Committee on the Philippines in 1919 to explain the state of higher education in the Philippines.
  • His 1926 textbook History of the Philippines was widely used in Philippine public schools.
  • He was one of the drafters, a group known as the "Seven Wise Men", of the Philippines' 1935 constitution.He is married to Francisca Tirona-Benitez since August 3, 1912 and the father of Helena Benitez.
