About Corneliu Dragalina

  • Corneliu Dragalina (5 February 1887 – 11 July 1949) was a Romanian general during World War II, the son of the World War I-general Ion Dragalina.
  • He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
  • He was commander of the 6th Army Corps from 1940 to 1943 until it was almost completely destroyed during the Battle of Stalingrad. Corneliu Dragalina served as Governor-General of the Bukovina Governorate from 21 March 1943 until 1944.After the Red Army had occupied Bukovina in March 1944, he was put at the disposal of the Ministry of Defense.
  • He shortly returned as General Inspector of the Mechanized Troops between November 1944 and March 1945, when he was definitively retired.
  • He died from natural causes on 11 July 1949 in Bucharest, escaping persecution by the new Communist regime.
