Geoffrey Dean Hodgson (born 22 October 1966) is a former English cricketer.
Dean was a right-handed batsman.
He was born in Carlisle, Cumberland.
Studied at Loughborough University 1985-88 ; Human Biological Sciences.
Dean was selected as a junior to represent England Schools U19s and England NAYC before trialling and playing Second Xl cricket for Lancashire and Worcestershire before joining Warwickshire, whilst still at Loughborough in 1987.
Dean was released by Warwickshire in 1988 and he joined Gloucestershire in 1989, after an extended trial period during which he was named Rapid Cricketline Player of the month in August 1989 after 5 consecutive second eleven hundreds.
Dean played and coached abroad during a 10-year professional career with Warwickshire and Gloucestershire , wintering in Australia twice (for Southern Districts & Western Suburbs in Queensland), South Africa (for CBC Old Boys in Pretoria) and Argentina twice (for Belgrano AC in Buenos Aires).
Dean also made Cricket tours to Sri Lanka, Namibia & Kenya with Gloucestershire as part of their pre-season preparations.
He has been an MCC Playing Member since 1986, being selected to make ‘A’ tours to Namibia, Sweden, the Netherlands (as Captain) and Ghana & The Gambia to date .
Other countries played in Bermuda, Barbados.
Currently lives in Bristol and works as a Senior Investment Manager with Investec in Bath.
Having retired in 1996, after being released by Gloucestershire in 1995, he continues to play football and golf, alongside supporting his children in their sporting endeavours.
