About Dermot Fitzpatrick
- Dermot Fitzpatrick (born 12 April 1940) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician.
- He is a native of Dublin city, and was educated at Coláiste Mhuire, an Irish language secondary school in the city, and at University College Dublin, from which he graduated with a degree in medicine.
- Prior to his entry into politics, he worked as a family doctor. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Central constituency.
- Fitzpatrick was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1987 general election but lost his seat at the 1992 general election.
- In 1997, he was nominated by the Taoiseach to Seanad Éireann.
- He regained his Dáil seat at the 2002 general election.He retired at the 2007 general election.
- His daughter Mary Fitzpatrick, a Fianna Fáil member of Dublin City Council, was one of three Fianna Fáil candidates in Dublin Central for the 2007 general election.
- (The other candidates were the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and then Senator Cyprian Brady).
- She did not get elected.
