About Bertha Foster

  • Bertha Mae Foster (May 3, 1881 – February 29, 1968) was a founding regent of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, and served on its board of trustees from 1925 to 1941.
  • She was appointed its first dean of music in 1926 by the university's first president, Bowman F.
  • Ashe, and served as dean of its School of Music for 18 years until her retirement in 1944.
  • The University of Miami awarded Bertha Foster an honorary doctor of musical arts (D.M.A.) in 1951.
