About Doug McKay

  • Douglas Alvin McKay (born May 28, 1929) is a former professional ice hockey player who played left wing, shooting left.
  • He played professional hockey from 1947-48 season to the 1951–52 for five different teams in four leagues.
  • He won the Calder Cup in 1950 with Indianapolis Capitals in American Hockey League.
  • He also played one game in finals for Detroit Red Wings in 1950, helping them win the Stanley Cup.
  • McKay's name was left off the cup because was not a regular member of the team.
  • McKay, however, qualified to be on the cup.
  • McKay and Chris Hayes are the only players who played their only NHL game in the Stanley Cup finals for a Stanley Cup winning team.
  • McKay also did a rare double with teammate Gordon Haidy, winning the Calder Cup and Stanley Cup in the same season.
