About Dov Markus

  • Dov Markus (born in the USSR) was the first recipient of the Hermann Trophy as the outstanding collegiate soccer player of the year.
  • Markus attended Long Island University where he played on the men’s soccer team for three seasons from 1965 to 1967.
  • In 1965, he scored 35 goals in 14 games for 70 points and a place in the NCAA record book.
  • Over his three-year career, he scored 79 goals in 49 games and won the 1967 Hermann Trophy.
  • He was never named as a first team All American, garnering second team honors in 1967.
  • In 2000, LIU inducted Markus into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • After finishing his collegiate career, he played a single season (1968) with the New York Generals of the North American Soccer League.In mid-1990s Dov Markus taught at Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn, New York while refereeing NCAA games.
