- Gary Barta (born 4 September 1963) is the current athletic director at the University of Iowa.
- He succeeded Bob Bowlsby on 1 August 2006, when Bowlsby stepped down after 15 years as Iowa's athletic director to take the same position at Stanford University.
- Before coming to Iowa, Barta was the athletic director at the University of Wyoming from 2003 to 2006.
- In early 2005, Barta was a finalist for the athletic director position at Arizona State University.
- Prior to serving as the athletic director at Wyoming, Barta served as an administrator in the athletic departments at the University of Washington and University of Northern Iowa.
