Gerardo Werthein is the President of the Argentine Olympic Committee.
In 2011 he was elected to become a member of the International Olympic Committee.Werthein got his start in business with an advantage, inheriting a multi-million dollar business.Werthein is well-connected to Gustavo Dorf, an underworld businessman from Argentina who was indicted in the so-called "Shared Dreams scandal", was a key figure in former Argentina president Kirchner's "biggest corruption scandals" and is under investigation by the FBI for money laundering.
As Dorf's business partner, Werthein used his position as president of the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) to give Dorf a lucrative contract to serve as head of security of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Buenos Aires.
He also helped Dorf's security company, Armoring Systems SA, become the sole supplier of bullet proof vests, weapons and armored vehicles to Argentina's federal law enforcement agency as well as the local law enforcement agencies of Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Cordova.In the 1970s, Werthein was a leader in the Communist Youth movement.
