  • She was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant in 1983-84 in Carcassonne, France, and was an exchange student in 1988-89 at the University of Seville, Spain.Her first book, Under Construction: The Body in Spanish Novels (University Press of Virginia, 1994) was selected for the 1995 Outstanding Academic Books List by Choice magazine.
