About H. M. Khoja

  • Haji S/o Mehar Ali Khoja, (8 October 1908 – 20 September 1999) known as H.M Khoja, was a teacher & an educationist from Sindh, Pakistan. Khoja Sahib was born on October 8, 1908 at Tando Bagho (Badin District).
  • After completing his BA and BT in 1932, became a teacher at Larkana, Naushehroferoze.
  • On 1 June 1936, he became Head Master at Local Board Middle School Nawabshah, which was elevated to the status of High School in 1940.
  • Khoja sahib served as a Headmaster of this school up to 29 September 1972 and from October 1972 to 1979, he performed his responsibilities as Chairman of the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Hyderabad.
  • Khoja Sahib was awarded presidential award Tamgha-i-Khidmat (TK), and then in 1994, Pride of Performance. Several schools were named after him, including H.M Khoja (Government Provincialized) High Schools (1 and 2), the H.M Khoja Auditorium, the SZABIST H.M Khoja Institute of Education and H.M Khoja Girls High School.   • Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi has a credit for establishing Peoples Medical College for Girls Now PUMHS and Mehran Engineering College now Quaid-E-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology Nawabshah (QUEST) during his stint as Chief Minister of Sindh.
  • Following the passage of bill of establishing a medical college in Nawabshah by the Sindh Assembly, Mr.
  • Jatoi confronted with a difficult situation for finding out a suitable location to start classes of the said institution immediately.
  • For that matter he visited his teacher Mr.
  • H.M Khoja and requested him to allow him to start girls medical college in a building (which was then housing a school run by Mr.
  • H.M Khoja) on makeshift basis.
  • However, Mr.
  • Khoja reportedly declined his request and insisted not to disturb his academic environment.
  • But Mr.
  • Jatoi’s stand over the issue was that he was acquiring the building not for his own purpose but again for the sake of promotion of education in the area and later on convinced him to hand over the building to make the newly established Peoples Medical College functional.
