Moussa Faki Mahamat (Arabic: ???? ??? ????? Musa Faki Mu?ammad, born 21 June 1960) is a Chadian politician and diplomat who has been Chairperson of the African Union Commission since 14 March 2017.
Previously he was Prime Minister of Chad from 24 June 2003 to 4 February 2005 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from April 2008 to January 2017.
Faki, a member of the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS), belongs to the Zaghawa ethnic group, the same group as President Idriss Déby.On 30 January 2017, he was elected as Chairperson of the African Union Commission. On 7 October 2019, he issued a notice to Dr.
Arikana Chihombori-Quao relieving her of her position as African Union Ambassador to the U.S.A.
This action has raised concerns about the influence of colonial powers on African countries and led to an online petition on Change.org for Dr.
Arikana's reinstatement.
